On Saturday afternoon, Raquel Nunn of Haddon Heights turned on her stove without giving it a second thought. She didn’t know gas had been leaking out of the apartment below her for several hours, collecting in her apartment.
She never knew what hit her, what blew her out of her window and onto the roof of a porch, what burned her severely, leaving her in critical condition at Crozer Chester Medical Center.
But while Nunn remains under close watch after skin graft surgery, her friends and the surrounding community are working to do everything they can to help her.
At 7 p.m. Thursday, Ott’s Greentop Inn in Berlin — where Nunn worked as a bartender — will run a fundraiser with free food and free live entertainment.
According to the announcement on the Recovery for Raquel Facebook page (with more than 300 “likes” in just a few day) : “There is no age restriction for this fundraiser, all are welcome. ALL donations will go directly to Raquel. Cash donations will be accepted as well as checks, made payable to ‘Recovery for Raquel,’ and any items you would like to donate.”
The fundraisers will continue every Thursday through March.
Friends also have started a “Giving Forward” page to help raise funds for Nunn. So far, more than $1,700 has been raised, about 17 percent of the $10,000 they’re hoping for.
And local newspaper The Retrospect notes Haddon Heights Good Neighbors also is collecting:
