Help Barrington break a world record

The Guinness World Record for an egg toss competition is 1,162 people, according to borough resident Mike Drumm. Now he and 11 other residents are hoping to get their neighbors to stand up and break that record for Barrington.

The group is hoping to bring together at least 1,200 people — 600 teams of two — at Woodland School  on Oct. 13 immediately after the Barrington Harvest Festival to break the record.

“The purpose of this event is to bring family and friends together to do something fun and to bring more positive attention to the town of Barrington,” Drumm said in an e-mail. “People do not have to be from Barrington to participate, but Barrington will be recognized as a world record holder. After the event, people participating can go to the Guinness website and print out a certificate of participation.”

The main rule according to Guinness, Drumm said, is that teams must consist of two people and there must be a winner.

The event also is being organized as a fundraiser for local food banks, Drumm said, so participating teams will pay $20 to register to help offset costs. All remaining funds will be donated.

“We hope to have many sponsors assist us in covering costs. The Police Benevolent Association Local 328 — which consists of police officers from Barrington, Haddon Heights, Haddonfield and Audubon — has donated $5,000 to get us off to a great start,” Drumm noted. “We will also need many volunteers along the way, and anyone who would like to help can go on the website and contact anyone on the list for more information.”

Registration is not yet open, Drumm said, but it will be done via the website before the event.

The organizers listed on the website — the individuals to contact if you’d like to help — are:

This is going to be a great event for everyone involved and an incredible way to showcase the great community of Barrington. How many people can actually say that they are a Guiness Book of World Record holder? Our family can’t wait!
