U.S. Rep. Rob Andrews of Haddon Heights is being investigated by the House Ethics Committee based on allegations he improperly used campaign funds to pay for a graduation party and take a family vacation, according to multiple media reports.
Andrews, who recently marched in the Barrington Independence Day Parade, has served in Congress for more than two decades with massive support from the region.
According to the Associated Press: “The New Jersey Democrat has reported using campaign money to pay for at least 18 trips to California, where his daughter has a fledgling career as a singer and actress.”
A Washington Post blog quoted a release from Andrews’ office:
“Last November, the Republican party’s local chairman issued a press release announcing that he had forwarded to the House Ethics committee a series of accusations against me and my family. These accusations are totally and categorically false,” Andrews said in a statement issued late Tuesday by his office. “Such attacks on anyone’s children and families, who are not public figures, should have no place in our political discourse.”
“None of these accusations involve the use of taxpayer or government money,” Andrews added. “Our campaign’s public disclosures show that every dollar of our campaign funds was properly spent and fully disclosed.”
