Registration open for borough effort to set egg-toss world record

Barrington’s effort to break the Guiness World Record for an egg-toss competition is just over a month away — and residents from across South Jersey and beyond can now officially register for the Barrington World Record Attempt.

Registration for the event — set for 4:30 p.m. Oct. 13, immediately after the Barrington Harvest Festival behind Woodland School — is $20 for each two-person team.  Organizer Michael Drumm says he’s hoping for at least 600 teams to top the record of 1,162 participants.

The Barrington World Record Attempt is a fully registered 503(c) nonprofit company operating under the name “Cracked Egg Foundation, LLC.” Its federal taxpayer identification number is 46-0669206. All funds raised through the event will be donated to local charities, including a food bank, though the event website notes it is designed to be a community-oriented event, not a fundraiser.

“The purpose of this event is to bring family and friends together to do something fun and to bring more positive attention to the town of Barrington,” Drumm said in an email.  “People do not have to be from Barrington to participate, but Barrington, N.J., will be recognized as a world record holder. After the event, people participating can go to the Guinness website and print out a certificate of participation.”

The Police Benevolent Association Local 328 — which consists of police officers from Barrington, Haddon Heights, Haddonfield and Audubon — donated $5,000 to help get the event started, Drumm said.

Additional sponsors can register at levels starting as low as $100 (“Scrambled Egg” level: Includes lawn sign on day of event and sponsor space on post-event sign) and pushing to $2,000 and beyond (“Eggs Benedict” level: Includes extra large banner on day of event, priority sponsor space on website and Facebook page, priority sponsor space on post-event sign, priority sponsor space on T-shirt that will be worn by support staff at event and offered for sale).

Individuals also may donate without participating via the registration site.

For additional details, see the event’s Facebook page.
