Former Barrington school official, now Trenton mayor, arrested in federal sting

The man who controlled Barrington School District’s finances for much of 2007 and 2008 before he was bought out and subsequently won the race to become mayor of Trenton in 2010 has been arrested and accused of agreeing to accept a bribe to sell public land for less than its market value.

According to

U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman said at a news conference this week that property owned by Trenton a few blocks from City Hall for the garage was assessed at $271,000. He said Mayor Tony Mack and Joseph Giorgianni — a Mack supporter who owns a Trenton sandwich shop and is a convicted sex offender — agreed to accept $100,000 for the land for the city’s coffers, as long as the purported developers also paid a bribe of more than $100,000 to be split between the two.
