Report: Kmart to close in neighboring Lawnside

The White Horse Pike Plaza in Lawnside will lose another key store early next year when Kmart closes, according to a media report. The plaza also lost a Pathmark grocery store earlier this year.

The Kmart is expected to close after the holiday season, according to the report. A going-out-of-business sale is expected to begin Oct. 21. Store employees learned of the planned closure this week and will have the opportunity to apply for openings at other nearby Kmart and Sears stores, the report said.

“The lease is not being renewed at that location,”  Kim Freely, a spokeswoman for Kmart’s parent firm, Sears Holdings, said in the CPSJ report. She said the firm does not disclose the reasons for its real estate decisions.

In recent years, the storefront went from being a Kmart to a Sears Essentials and back to a Kmart.

So sad about this plaza losing all these stores. Would love to have another supermarket there.

I remember when I was a little girl there was a Rickles and a Two Guys in that plaza. I also loved having Pathmark within minutes of my house. It’s sad!

Rumors are swirling about ShopRite replacing the Pathmark location, but I hadn’t heard anything about Kmart until this …
