Hurricane Sandy canceled 300 blood drives: Donate Wednesday in Barrington

About 300 blood drives were canceled in the days immediately before and after Hurricane Sandy devastated parts of the Jersey Shore up into New York City.

“Patients will still need blood despite the weather,” Dr. Richard Benjamin, chief medical officer of the Red Cross, said in a news release. “To ensure a sufficient national blood supply is available for those in need, both during and after the storm passes, it is critical that those in unaffected areas make an appointment to donate blood as soon as possible.”

And doing your part has rarely been easier than it will be Wednesday and Thursday, when a blood drive is scheduled for 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days at the Wawa Training Center at 208 S. White Horse Pike in the borough.

If you can’t make it there, there also is a drive today in Cherry Hill and Nov. 16 at Virtua in Voorhees and at the Red Cross in Pennsauken. Check here for more blood donation options in South Jersey and Philadelphia.

Please call 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767) to make an apppointment.
