The most complete and most convenient source for news and information about the borough of Barrington, N.J.
Barrington residents have demonstrated their generosity again and again — from raising thousands of dollars for Hurricane Sandy victims to donating food every Thanksgiving.
While any cash donation is accepted, donors also have the option of “direct adoption.” Under direct adoption, donors may choose the family they wish to donate to. The organization then sends a family profile and wish list, and the donor buys a new toy or gift and a new outfit for each child, along with a holiday meal for the family (or grocery store gift card).
Last year, the program resulted in 300 families being adopted and more than $12,000 being raised, according to the website. The organization is aiming for 500 families an $25,000 this year.
Volunteers of America has very strong ratings on CharityNavigator.org (a tremendously useful tool before you do any donating). Please consider adopting a family this year.
Note: This charity profile was written because my wife and son liked the idea of being able to help those in need within the area. It is one of many worthwhile charities in the region. If you want to share information about other charities, please do so in the comments section below, and please include links to their sites to help people learn more. Thank you.
