Recent media reports in the region list Jimmy Cortes, 20, as a Camden resident. A Prosecutor’s Office spokesman confirmed he did have a previous Camden address but that his most recent address was in Barrington.

According to NJ.com: Cortes was shot about 3 a.m. Oct. 21 on North 25th Street between High and Federal streets, authorities said. The gunshot caused severe brain damage, they said, and he was on life support from the time of the shooting to his death.

Cortes’ death marks the 62nd slaying in Camden this year. The previous record was 58 homicides in 1995.
