The Barrington Fire Company’s annual toy drive and the Barrington Democrat Club’s “Lunch with Santa” event are both set for Dec. 15 this year. Santa will then tour the borough on a fire truck Dec. 16.
The fire company will collect toys from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Rite Aid parking lot at the corner of Clements Bridge Road and Gloucester Pike. The fire company is asking for new, unwrapped toys — but not plush or stuffed toys — for needy children. The toys also may be dropped off between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. Monday through Friday until Dec. 21 at the fire hall at 2nd and Haines Avenue. Fire hall drop-off also may be done from 7 to 9 p.m. Mondays.
From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. the same day, the Barrington Democrat Club is hosting a “Lunch with Santa” at the Barrington VFW Senior Center on Shreve Avenue. Cost of admission for lunch and a picture with Santa is a new, unwrapped toy or nonperishable food item. Lunch options include a hot dog or chicken nuggets, bag of chips and juice or water. Questions can be emailed to Councilwoman Patti Nicholson at barringtonmom3@yahoo.com or to Wayne Robenolt at bfc9101@verizon.net.
Then, on Sunday, Dec. 16, the Barrington Fire Company will continue its decades-old tradition of delivering candy canes to residents and escorting Santa on a fire truck throughout the community. The Christmas custom will begin at noon.
