What started as a forecast for rain in South Jersey has expanded into a full Winter Weather Advisory from the National Weather Service involving heavy rain throughout the day turning into snow overnight.
The forecast now calls for one-half to three-quarters of an inch of rain today, then a period of rain and snow becoming all snow after 3 a.m. Saturday. Snow accumulation of two to four inches is predicted early Saturday, followed by chances of another half inch during the day Saturday.
Wind gusts of more than 30 mph also are expected overnight and during the day Saturday, which could result in power outages.
The weather service warns of deteriorating travel conditions for the evening commute due to slippery roads and limited visibility.
South Jersey is expected to escape relatively easily from the storm, while North Jersey, New York and further northeast are getting forecasts for up to two feet of snow.
