The Barrington School District Board of Education agreed Wednesday night to send the 2013-2014 budget to the Camden County Board of Education for approval before presenting it to the community in a special meeting at 7:30 p.m. March 26.
During the meeting, district Business Administrator Samuel L. Dutkin went over some of the highlights of the spending plan:
–No cuts will be made to programs or staff
— New computers will be purchased as part of the rotating program to maintain updated technology throughout the district.
— A new scoreboard will be installed at the Woodland School gym.
— The floor of the Woodland gym will be sanded down, repainted and reglossed.
— Keyless entry systems will be finalized at both schools to improve security. Lock replacement at Woodland also will be completed.
— A greenhouse will be installed at Woodland School to allow for new educational opportunities at the school. Board members discussed the possibility of students eating vegetables they grow and/or growing flowers that could be delivered to senior citizens in the borough.
— The budget reduced the amounts expected from certain federal grants based on expected reductions after the sequester in Washington, D.C. Should these grants return at 100 percent, the district will have the opportunity for further upgrades.
The next regular school board meeting is at 7:30 p.m. Monday, followed by the public hearing on the budget at 7:30 p.m. March 26.
