A device found Thursday in Lawnside Borough Hall led to a complete evacuation and a call to the Camden County Bomb Squad, but it turned out to be a fake.
“Authorities were notified immediately and the building was cleared. The device was rendered safe by a disruption round fired from a robot used by the Camden County Bomb Squad,” Camden County prosecutor’s office spokesman Jason Laughlin said in a written release. “Subsequent investigation revealed the device did not contain explosives and was instead filled with screws.”
The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives also responded, according to Philly.com.
Police are seeking clues as to who placed the device in the building. Authorities asked anyone with information to contact Prosecutor’s Office investigator Fred Lang at (609) 381-4940.
