American Ninja Warrior” is a grueling obstacle course competition that originated in Japan as “Sasuke.” The show was rebroadcast as “Ninja Warrior” on G4 for years before it became popular enough that it started a U.S.-based competition to send winners to Japan.

More recently, G4 teamed with NBC to produce “American Ninja Warrior.” The show is true to the original in that it challenges competitors with astonishingly difficult tasks that take tremendous levels of strength, skill and concentration to complete.

The winner of this season of “American Ninja Warrior” will collect $500,000.

NBC’s broadcast of first-stage efforts will run at 8 p.m. tonight and Sept. 2. G4 broadcast its episode last night.
