Winter weather advisory issued for region

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for much of the area from Wilmington, Del., through Mount Holly on Saturday, calling for up to three inches of snow before changing to sleet and rain.

Wonder-97-Snow-Rain-Sleet-Static-Image2The advisory is in effect from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

Snow is expected to begin Saturday morning and there may be periods of heavy snow in mid- or late afternoon before rising temperatures change the precipitation to sleet, then rain, the weather service reported.

The advisory warned residents to watch for slippery conditions and limited visibility.

The temperature is not expected to drop below freezing on Saturday evening, but highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s are likely on Sunday and Monday.
