The Barrington School District Board of Education swore in two new members, Kelli Martone and Martin Schoettler Jr., and one returning member, Jennifer Schuster, during the annual reorganization meeting this week.
The board also re-elected Michael Drumm as board president and Carla Bolling as vice president, set the meeting schedule for the rest of 2015, set membership in committees and appointed representatives to other governing bodies.
In the regular meeting held immediately after the reorganization meeting, the board heard from Superintendent Anthony Arcodia regarding the first of four planned town-hall style meetings to better inform the community about what’s happening in the district.
The first such meeting will be on PARCC – or Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers – testing. The meeting is planned for the end of January with additional details to come shortly, Arcodia said.
According to the district website, the assessment is designed to “allow parents and educators to see how children are progressing in school and whether they are on track for post-secondary success. The PARCC assessment also provides teachers with the ability to identify students who may be falling behind and need extra help.”
The two parts of the PARCC testing – the performance-based component and the end-of-year component – are scheduled for March 2 through 27 and April 27 through May 22.
The other three town hall meetings will focus on common core standards, school security and student nutrition, the superintendent said.
Arcodia also said discussions were beginning on switching student report cards in the district to a trimester system with grades based on common core standards. Arcodia noted a number of surrounding districts already follow this system.
